We are inviting applications for the position of tenure track professor (associate professor) or full professor in social work in the Faculty of Social Sciences. The position is in the degree program of social work, which is the oldest social work research and education unit in Finland. The degree program of social work is in the unit of Welfare Sciences together with the degree programs of psychology and logopedics.
The discipline of social work examines the wellbeing of individuals and communities, social problems and practices for social change. We educate future experts for client work as well as for positions in social work requiring administrative, development, research and teaching skills. The completion of bachelor’s and master’s degree in social work gives the right to act as a licensed social worker. It also builds capabilities to work in other positions that require basic education in social sciences.
Social work research and teaching at Tampere University have a strong connection to professional practices in social and health care, everyday lives of individuals, and different social problems. In addition, social work reseach has an interdisciplinary emphasis. It has connections to other social sciences, educational sciences, medical science, nursing science, psychology, law, and administrative sciences. Strong fields of social work research at Tampere University concern children, adults and the elderly in vulnerable positions, and the encounters they have in welfare services and institutional practices.
We are seeking a motivated and accomplished researcher and teacher who will pursue and lead high-quality scientific research, develops the discipline of social work, gives research-based teaching, and contributes to public engagement and international networking and collaboration within social work.
The focus of research and teaching can be in any of the research areas of social work. An ability to conduct teaching at all levels of our degree programs will be considered as an advantage. The most important criteria for the position are the quality of research and the quality of teaching.

The initial appointment as a tenure track professor is for five years and, subject to successful performance, you will become a tenured member of faculty (full professor) at the end of the first five-year period. You will be supported throughout the five-year period to ease transition to a permanent faculty position. The position of a full professor is permanent from the start.

A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.
Salaries are based on the job demands and employees’ personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. The minimum starting salary of a tenure track professor will range between 4577-5130 EUR/month and of a professor between 5535-6200 EUR/month. Higher salaries may be agreed dependent upon experience and/or performance.
